Italo’s Café is a distinctive dining establishment in Kuwait, conceptualized by MMC Catering. The café draws inspiration from the whimsical narratives of renowned Italian writer Italo Calvino, aiming to provide patrons with a literary and artistic ambiance. The design narrative centers around the simplicity and elegance of black ink on white paper, reminiscent of an author penning stories in a quaint coffee shop.
Design Services and Impact:
Collaborating with George Henry Chidiac of GCH Architects, we were commissioned to develop the complete branding for Italo’s Café. Our design approach was deeply influenced by Calvino’s imaginative storytelling, striving to encapsulate the essence of his literary style. The visual identity was characterized by minimalist elements, utilizing black ink illustrations on white backgrounds to evoke the imagery of handwritten manuscripts. This aesthetic was consistently applied across various brand touchpoints, including the website, menu designs, and interior décor, creating a cohesive and immersive experience for visitors.
The centerpiece of the branding featured an illustration of Italo Calvino writing in a traditional coffee shop, symbolizing the café’s dedication to literary inspiration and artistic expression. This thematic representation not only honored Calvino’s legacy but also provided a unique and culturally rich environment for patrons, setting Italo’s Café apart in Kuwait’s dining scene.
